We like that you can program the app to use whatever equipment you have at home (or not), and that you can also plug in your own playlists and use the Beat Sync feature to match the beat of your music to the pace of your workout.


Daily Burn Workout App

Whatever type of exercise you prefer, Daily Burn has a class for you (the app boasts more than 1,000 workouts in all). Jess Sander, a personal trainer at Chelsea Piers in New York City, says, "This app is basically your own personal trainer/fitness instructor right at your fingertips."

"It's a paid app, but there are over 15 different programs to choose from, ranging from high-intensity interval training to yoga." The app is also updated on a regular basis, with new workouts and instructors added on a regular basis." The best part is that you can connect your Apple TV, Roku, or other streaming device to the app and watch the workouts on your TV.or laptop, effectively transforming your living room into a fitness studio.


8fit Workout App

If you're trying to lose weight or slim down, you already know that exercise isn't the only factor to consider—what you eat plays a significant role as well. With this app, which combines exercise programs and meal plans, you can tackle both sides of the equation. Weekly HIIT workouts tailored to your level of experience burn fat and speed up your metabolism, while the food section of the app keeps track of everything you eat. It's a one-two punch for staying on track with your fitness.


TRX Workout App

The TRX suspension trainer is a great, small piece of equipment to have around the house because it elevates basic bodyweight moves to new levels of difficulty. The app (which comes with a subscription when you buy a TRX) has a ton of training videos to help you fine-tune your workout. Intervals of 30 to 45 seconds alternate with brief rest periods in each session. Choose a plan that lasts less than 20 minutes, 20 to 40 minutes, or more than 40 minutes. You can also sync the app with your Apple Watch or other fitness tracker, then review and share your time, calories burned, and other stats by tapping.


MyFitnessPal Workout App

Another app that combines workouts with a meal plan is "This free app keeps track of your personal diet and exercise to help you figure out the best calorie intake for your body type and workouts," Sander explains. "It's very straightforward and easy to use." It even allows you to scan or manually enter food barcodes to get accurate calorie and nutrient counts."

"You can't outrun a bad diet," Donavanik says, "and I think MyFitnessPal is great at helping people become more aware of their eating habits." It may not always be the most accurate, but simply having people become more aware of the foods and beverages they consume is a huge win."


Down Dog Workout App

Down Dog has thousands of unique sequences for yogis of all levels if you prefer to flow at home. When you open the app, you can choose from a variety of yoga styles (restorative, yin, yang, hatha, chair yoga, etc.). You can even choose how long you want to flow, which body parts you want to focus on, and how long you want to spend in Savasana (that relaxing point at the end of class where you lay down and feel like you might fall asleep?). It costs $3.99 per month or $49.99 per year to become a member and gain full access to the app. It's a lot less expensive than going to your local studio once a week.


CardioCast

Don't have the funds to purchase a Peloton bike but own a traditional spin bike? Cycle Cast has you covered with their workouts, which are all led by "world-class instructors." This app allows you to choose from 20, 30, 45, or 60 minute cycling rides while listening to hit music playlists. Cycle Cast integrates with Apple Health and Google Fit, allowing you to track your heart rate and calorie burn. The app recently added a variety of cardio workouts to its repertoire, including body weight, elliptical, running, walking, and more. Their membership costs $9.99 per month after the 7-day free trial.


obé Workout App

Obé Fitness is the place to go if you want to work up a sweat while also getting your groove on. This company offers HIIT, dance cardio, sculpting, yoga, and boxing classes both live and on demand. They even have pre- and post-natal workouts for moms, as well as new programming for both children and seniors. After a 30-day free trial, this app costs $27 per month.


Peloton Workout App

Peloton turns out to be more than just high-tech spin bikes and treads. They also have an app with a variety of workouts that can be done at home. Their live studio workouts for bootcamp and strength classes are available to watch. You can also follow their instructors on your own (non-Peloton) bike or treadmill. HIIT, bodyweight workouts, Barre, and yoga, as well as strength training circuits requiring minimal equipment, are all included in this female-led app. The app includes a fitness tracker, recipes, monthly challenges, and a community for support in addition to workouts. Sweat is free to download, but access to workout programs costs $19.99 per month (or $119 per year).


Fit Body App

ASICS Runkeeper App

Runkeeper is a free app for runners and cyclists who want to increase their mileage in 2021. The app, which comes with a GPS, lets you track your running, walking, biking, and hiking workouts. Runkeeper keeps track of distance, pace, and time, as well as allowing you to set goals to track your progress. You can make plans tailored to your specific goals, join virtual running groups, and take part in in-app challenges. Runkeeper costs $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year to join.
