7 Workout Suggestions For Busy Moms

When you become a mother, your workout habits change. Between meal preparation, playtime, and diaper duty, your schedule is suddenly overburdened with parental responsibilities that make finding time for yourself seem impossible. You're constantly changing and adapting as your children grow, which leaves many moms feeling stuck when it comes to fitness.

If this sounds familiar, know that you are not alone, and you are not the first to have this experience. The good news is that moms all over the world, including those in our own community, have discovered ways to break the cycle and fit exercise into their hectic schedules.

Do you want to learn how they do it? Here are seven tried-and-true workout tips for moms on the go:

1. Exercise before the kids get up in the morning.

When we have a lot on our plates, we frequently lose motivation for the things we consider 'negotiable' as the day progresses. Working out is usually included in this category. However, if you make it a habit to exercise first thing in the morning, you will feel as if you have one less thing on your to-do list. Endorphins will also give you a boost of energy and help you clear your mind, allowing you to take on the day like a champ! Our clubs provide flexible hours and excellent class schedules.

2. Make connections with other moms.

Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are going through similar difficulties as you can do wonders for your mental health. Whether they are your best friends or simply other gym members who attend the same group classes as you, having a sense of community will help you stay motivated and accountable to your fitness goals. 3. Involve your children

Make use of your workouts to teach your children about health (and help burn some of their energy). Depending on their age, you can have them count your reps, join in on jumping jacks, or participate in a plank challenge. Some people even use their children as weights!

4. Allow us to babysit

Bring your children with you to the gym! We have a dedicated Play Kids Area in each of our FITNESS PROJECT locations to care for your children while you focus on your fitness. You can exercise in peace knowing that your children are well supervised, safe, and entertained with activities, games, and crafts. It's a win-win situation.

5. Informal your children that is your special time.

If your children aren't old enough to accompany you to the gym, explain to them that your daily workout is a special time for you and offer a small reward for their cooperation.

6. Maintain a special gym bag

Busy mothers have a lot of stuff for their children — toys, diapers, clothing — let alone their own possessions. Things can quickly become disorganized, leaving you feeling panicked when you're in a hurry to workout and can't find what you need. Avoid this entirely by keeping a separate gym bag stocked with your clothes, shoes, snacks, and so on. When you get home from your workout, replace your sweaty clothes with new ones and zip up the bag. Pro tip: Include workout clothes that you enjoy wearing so that you are more likely to want to exercise.

7. Yoga layer.

Workouts do not always have to be intense to be beneficial. Most people prefer to strike a balance between strength training, cardio exercise, and stretching or mobility. Things don't always go as planned for a busy mom, so allowing yourself some flexibility (no pun intended!) will give you more opportunities to make working out work for you. Yoga is an excellent way to move your body, relieve stress, and clear your mind all at the same time. It may be easier to persuade yourself to attend a yoga class rather than an open gym training session on days when you aren't feeling particularly motivated.
